NCC to Release New 4G Licenses in 4Q15
February 26, 2015

Taiwan's NCC (National Communications Commission) said that the government plans to release 2.6GHz frequency bands for 4G telecom services by the end of this year, with the auction to be launched in the third quarter, reported Economic Daily News on February 26. A total of 190MHz in bandwidth would be put up for auction. According to NCC's plan, 50MHz would be used by TD-LTE (Time Division-Long Term Evolution) technology and the remaining 140MHz would be used by FD-LTE (Frequency Division-Long Term Evolution) technology. Guard bands of 10MHz spectrum will be reserved in the TD-LTE bandwidth to avoid interference between these two technologies. The floor price for the auction is expected to be NT$25 billion (US$795.9 million; US$1=NT$31.410).
